A fire that broke out on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the historic Badminton Theatre building in Athens’ Metropolitan Goudi Park has been brought under partial control. The blaze, which ignited shortly after 8 p.m., consumed materials and debris inside the abandoned structure—part of the roof collapsed during the incident. By 1 a.m., emergency crews had stabilized the situation.

Contained Within the Building

According to the Hellenic Fire Service, the fire remained confined to the interior of the building. While it caused extensive damage, there were no reports of spread to surrounding outdoor areas—and no individuals were reported trapped or injured.

Large-Scale Emergency Response

A total of 38 firefighters responded, supported by 10 water tankers, two aerial ladder trucks, one breathing apparatus vehicle, and six auxiliary vehicles. Volunteers assisted alongside municipal water tankers from the municipalities of Athens, Zografou, and Papagou-Cholargos.

Investigation Underway

A team from Athens’ Directorate for the Investigation of Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) was dispatched to the site to determine the cause of the fire.

Public Safety Measures

Due to heavy smoke, the 112 emergency service issued an alert to residents in the wider area, advising them to remain indoors and keep doors and windows closed. Police established a secure perimeter around the building to protect the public and support firefighting operations. Traffic restrictions were also implemented on key roads near the park during the operation.
