A missile attack on Turkey on March 9, 2026, triggered strong diplomatic reactions — first from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and then from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fırat, who lodged formal complaints with Iran.
According to Turkish sources, Fırat held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. This call followed Erdoğan’s earlier stern phone call to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
During the discussion, Fırat stressed that any violation of Turkish airspace is unacceptable and emphasized Ankara’s firm resolve to take all necessary measures against actions directed at Turkey. He also underscored that all parties must refrain from steps that could destabilize the region or endanger civilian safety.
In response, Araghchi stated that the missiles targeting Turkish airspace did not originate from Iran and confirmed that a full investigation into the incident would be carried out.
