The Turkish Foreign Minister granted a press conference today (23.11.2024) and talked about the situation in Greek-Turkish, following his recent visit to the Cyprus problem. In particular, Hakan Fidan described Cyprus’s accession to the European Union as a “mistake” while stressing that the Aegean must be transformed into an area of economic prosperity for Turkey and Greece. The Turkish Foreign Minister took a question about the progress of the Greek-Turkish dialogue and the next steps both on the so-called “positive agenda” and on the differences of the two sides in matters relating to the Aegean, while again referring to a “turkish minority”. The “kazan Kazan in the Aegean Analytically what Hakan Fidan said: ” We prefer to consider as a package all problems, including problems in the Aegean, issues in the Eastern Mediterranean and issues relating to the “Turkish” minority. We prefer to examine them all together and, if possible, away from the lights of publicity. However, as you know, especially in Greece’s internal policy, issues relating to Turkey can be over-politicalized. SAVE DIMITROPOULOS/EUROKINISSI We want to move on to a positive agenda, with an approach of mutual benefit (p.win-win, Kazan-kazan) . Without affecting our national interests, we aim to solve the existing problems by the official way and eliminate uncertainties. The Aegean Sea, which is an earthly paradise, must be transformed into an area of economic prosperity for our countries. Can this be done? Maybe. I believe that this objective can be achieved by means of solutions when there is the necessary maturity on both sides. Our quests and discussions with our Greek interlocutors are in this direction. At the moment, the High Cooperation Council is planned to convene between our countries as part of a visit by the Greek Prime Minister to Turkey in January or February.” SAVE DIMITROPOULOS/EUROKINISSI What he said about the Cyprus issue Hakan Fidan spoke about the Cyprus issue, on the occasion of statements by the Turkish MP of the main opposition and former Ambassador Namik Tan, who argued that the road to Turkey to the European Union is going through a federal solution in Cyprus and that the current government is blocking the road to Ankara on this issue, saying: “Of course, we do not agree with this claim. While you continue to safeguard your interests in one matter, you must not make your position worse elsewhere, instead, you must improve them. Depending on the nature of the problem, you should make the right moves and develop the right methods’ SOTER DIMITROPOULOS/EUROKINISSI The historical mistake the European Union made in the Cyprus issue was to bring Cyprus into the situation it is , and this prompts certain institutions of the European Union to take concrete positions. However, this does not change reality on the island. Turkey has a past there, the Turks have a past there. I mean, there are the massacres that have been experienced there. Then there is the “peace operation” (p. Turkish invasion). Then there was Turkey’s positive approach to the proposals brought by the international community. There’s the referendum on the island… Given these realities, we do not discuss the issue of the solution with the EU, but with the United Nations. As long as there is no increased tension on this issue, as long as there are well-meaning efforts, I think the EU will not want to enter a serious crisis area, burdening the existing problems. What we have to do here is show that we are open to well-meaning solutions. We want a solution that reflects the current operational reality on the island. Therefore, the claim that we are blocking Turkey’s path (p. Hamas not in Turkey Responding to reports on the move of Hamas’ leadership to Turkey after the Qatari “eviction” of the organization, Hakan Fidan said: “As Turkey, we denied these rumors. Our ministry’s representative’s office announced that the Hamas Civil Office did not move to Turkey. Qatar also denied the rumors you mentioned. In other words, the Hamas Civil Office has not come to Turkey. ” The Turkish Foreign Minister claimed in this regard that “The Democrats in the US want to exert a little more pressure on Hamas. They probably hope to gain some distance this way. They are trying to see whether a ceasefire, a peace agreement or something will occur, or whether there will be any development regarding the hostages.” However, he argued, “it seems that today’s terms of ceasefire are not the terms Hamas accepts. ” Washington warned Ankara a few days ago that no country should accept Hamas. “We will clearly tell the Turkish government, as with other countries, that it is no longer possible to act like but nothing is happening with Hamas,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, stressing that “we do not think that leaders of a vicious terrorist organisation should live comfortably anywhere, much more in a NATO member country.”
