Finnish President Urges Trump to Initiate Ceasefire in Ukraine on April 20

According to a statement made today (March 30, 2025), Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested to Donald Trump that April 20 would be an opportune time for a ceasefire in Ukraine. During their meeting at Trump’s estate in Florida, Stubb emphasized the importance of setting a deadline for initiating a truce in Ukraine, stating, “April 20 would be a good time for a full unconditional ceasefire… because it is Easter and because President Trump will have been in office for three months.” The two leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation between their countries while enjoying a round of golf. Since taking office in January, Trump has focused significantly on ending the war in Ukraine, which he calls ‘ridiculous.’ Earlier this week, the U.S. announced separate agreements with Ukraine and Russia to halt strikes in the Black Sea and energy infrastructure. Stubb informed reporters that Trump’s patience with Russia is wearing thin, and the U.S. has long-term plans if Russia does not agree to the ceasefire. Previously, Trump threatened to impose additional 25-50% tariffs on Russian oil if Moscow obstructs his efforts to end the war.
