It’s a great day to be Finnish (again). For the 8th consecutive year, Finland tops the list of the happiest countries worldwide. The 2025 World Happiness Report, conducted by Gallup in collaboration with the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, analyzes how residents of over 140 countries rate their quality of life—with Finland scoring exceptionally high. The top ten is rounded out by the other Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. “The dominance of Scandinavian countries on this list should come as no surprise,” says Gallup CEO Ilana Ron Levey. “There is stability in these nations. I think another important point about Finland is that there is less disparity in well-being compared to a country like the United States,” adds Ron Levey. The report examines factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. The top 20 happiest countries are: 1. Finland, 2. Denmark, 3. Iceland, 4. Sweden, 5. Netherlands, 6. Costa Rica, 7. Norway, 8. Israel, 9. Luxembourg, 10. Mexico, 12. New Zealand, 13. Switzerland, 14. Belgium, 15. Ireland, 16. Lithuania, 17. Austria, 18. Canada, 19. Slovenia, 20. Czech Republic. Don’t search too hard for Greece in the above list because you’ll find it at the 81st position, between Moldova (80th) and Venezuela (82nd). Albania ranks 89th, Turkey 94th, and Afghanistan brings up the rear at 147th.
