The surprise inspections by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) in the market continue, targeting businesses that violate regulations. A key feature of these inspections in restaurants is that they are mostly carried out by inspectors from other regional tax offices. During an inspection at a well-known all-day cafe bar in the northern suburbs, it was found that at least 15 receipts had not been issued, resulting in the imposition of the corresponding fine and a two-day lockdown. The same penalties were applied to a fish tavern in Lavrio, which failed to issue 12 receipts. One of the most renowned eateries in Monastiraki, with two separate stores, had not connected eight POS terminals to any of them, leading to a fine of €40,000, or €20,000 per store. Another multipurpose eatery in Monastiraki was found without three POS terminals connected, resulting in a fine of €20,000. At a famous restaurant on the coastal avenue, inspectors acted on a complaint and discovered that, besides not issuing two receipts, the business had not connected its POS terminal to the cash register. A fine of €10,000 was imposed on this establishment. In-depth inspections are ongoing for all businesses, covering both data and years.
