Filatra: ‘American-Style’ Chase – Dangerous Maneuvers and Police Injuries

in

Scenes reminiscent of those seen on American TV channels unfolded in Filatra. The manhunt turned into a near-tragedy, as human lives were put at risk during the high-speed chase, leaving locals shaken despite one suspect already being in police custody. It all began in Messinia but didn’t end there. Law enforcement officers faced criminals who appeared determined to evade inspection. Just after 10:30 PM on Thursday (03.07.2025) in Filatra, officers from the OPKE unit signaled an automobile carrying four Roma individuals for a routine check. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and rammed the patrol car, injuring two officers. What followed resembled scenes from a police movie, with the Roma abandoning their vehicle and fleeing on foot. Following their colleagues’ injuries, other officers initiated a pursuit. One suspect, aged 41, was located and arrested. Inside the car, which had stolen license plates, police found a cache of burglary tools and radios—equipment useful for their alleged illegal activities. According to authorities, the group had burglarized a home in the Dorio area, stealing clothing worth 500 euros, two wallets containing 680 euros, and personal documents.
