Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan addressed the recent Iranian missile incident during a statement on Saturday evening, March 7, 2026. Speaking about the missile reportedly launched toward Turkey — later intercepted by U.S. forces near Incirlik Air Base — Fidan said: “We spoke with our friends in Iran regarding the missile fired toward Turkey.”

He added: “If this was a missile that veered off course, that is another matter. But if such incidents continue, our advice to you is to be very careful.” Fidan emphasized that no party should become entangled in such a scenario, implicitly directing his remarks toward Tehran.

He went on to criticize attacks on civilian infrastructure in countries that do not permit foreign military use of their airspace or territory — a clear reference to Turkey’s longstanding policy of restricting external military operations from its soil. “It is not a sound strategy to target the political infrastructure of countries that refuse to allow foreign militaries to operate from their territory,” he stated.

Fidan also warned that such actions could inadvertently advance Israeli regional expansionism currently unfolding across the Middle East. His comments come amid conflicting reports over the missile’s intended target: while U.S. and Turkish officials confirmed it was aimed at Incirlik Air Base, Ankara had earlier suggested the missile was originally headed for Cyprus before deviating from its trajectory.
