Ships will remain docked at ports on Wednesday, April 9, as the Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) participates in a major 24-hour strike by GSEE. According to an announcement from PNO, the mobilization applies to all categories of ships, starting at 00:01 on Wednesday morning (April 9, 2025), and ending at midnight. Key demands include accuracy, housing crisis resolution, and collective bargaining. The PNO also calls for immediate implementation of modifications regarding eligibility conditions for unemployment benefits through the Maritime Employment Office (GENE). Additionally, they demand increased unemployment benefits beyond €350, aligning with those provided to land-based workers. The union seeks stricter penalties for violations of work and rest hours for seafarers, strict adherence to labor laws governing work/rest schedules, double pay, particularly for high-speed ferries, and immediate solutions for reduced crew compositions under Law 4150/2013, especially affecting Adriatic-operating vessels. As stated by PNO, during a meeting with the former Minister of Shipping, Styliadis, and other officials acknowledged the fairness of their demands and committed that solutions would be provided due to their critical connection to maritime safety and human life protection at sea.
