Passengers aboard the ferry Kissamos endured moments of anxiety after the vessel ran aground in shallow waters near Milos early Saturday morning following an unexpected power outage.

The Kissamos, operated by ANEK Lines, was en route from Piraeus to Chania via Milos, carrying 1,246 passengers and 108 crew members when it grounded at 3:10 a.m. off Milos’ coast.

According to ANEK Lines, the ship successfully refloated using its own propulsion and safely entered Adamantas port—the main port of Milos—where it is now securely moored. Emergency response units, including a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel, a fishing boat, and a passenger-vehicle ferry, rushed to the site as precautionary support.

Greek port authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrical failure and subsequent grounding. The vessel has been prohibited from departing until all required inspections are completed and cleared by the relevant authorities.

In its official statement dated June 27, 2026, ANEK Lines confirmed that the technical fault occurred shortly after departure from Milos’ port. The onboard engineering team resolved the issue, and the ferry returned independently to Adamantas under its own power. It remains docked pending official inspection.
