Chilling details have emerged from the femicide that took place in the village of Dialampis in Rhodope on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. A 53-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 44-year-old wife — and mother of their two children — to death during a domestic incident. After the attack, he attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the abdomen and ingesting pesticide.
A Disturbing Sequence of Events
The 16-year-old daughter of the couple was the one who alerted authorities. According to reports, she called police at 1:15 p.m. on the day of the crime, stating that her father had stabbed her mother in the neck — a wound later confirmed as fatal. Meanwhile, her 19-year-old brother carried his mother’s lifeless body to the Komotini General Hospital, where doctors officially pronounced her dead.
The suspect was also transported to the same hospital via an EKAB (Greek Emergency Medical Service) ambulance. He suffered abdominal injuries and had ingested pesticide, but his condition was not life-threatening. He is currently hospitalized under police guard at the Sismanoglou Hospital in Komotini.
Legal Action and Prior History
The Komotini Criminal Investigations Department has filed charges against the suspect for premeditated homicide, domestic violence, and violation of Greece’s firearms law. Two knives were seized from the scene.
This is not the first time the suspect has come into contact with law enforcement over domestic abuse. In 2022, he was arrested following a complaint filed by his wife for domestic threats — a warning sign that went unheeded. At the time of the murder, the couple — originally from Albania — were living separately. The victim had returned to Dialampis temporarily to celebrate her teenage daughter’s birthday; she worked seasonally and was visiting her family in the village.
Forensic evidence indicates the fatal injury was a deep stab wound to the neck — the trauma that ultimately caused her death. The Komotini Criminal Investigations Department is leading the preliminary investigation.
