New details have emerged today (18 June 2026) regarding the horrific femicide that took place in Drama, northern Greece, claiming the life of a 45-year-old police officer. According to recent reports, the victim had successfully secured a transfer to Thessaloniki — a move intended to sever all contact with her 55-year-old estranged husband. Tragically, she never got the chance to leave.
Last Attempt at Escape
Hours after the crime that shocked the city of Drama, information began surfacing about the victim’s final efforts to escape her abusive marriage. She had concluded that reconciliation was impossible and formally submitted transfer requests to her department at least twice. Her name was Antigoni — a woman who did everything in her power to begin a new life far from her husband.
Transfer Approved — Then Violence Erupted
As reported by SKAI, her department ultimately approved her transfer to Thessaloniki. The plan was for her and her 16-year-old son — who discovered her body covered in blood — to relocate near her daughter, a university student in the city. Investigators believe this approval was the immediate trigger for the fatal argument that day. In a violent outburst, the 55-year-old suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed his wife at least seven times inside their home in Drama.
Psychologist Under Investigation
Meanwhile, Greek Police (ELAS) are investigating the possible responsibilities of a psychologist employed by the Hellenic Police, who had been seeing the suspect privately. The 55-year-old had visited the psychologist outside official channels — not as part of any mandatory or service-related evaluation. During those sessions, the psychologist reportedly observed signs of panic attacks and heightened tension, and referred him to a psychiatrist, who prescribed medication.
According to the psychologist’s assessment, the suspect was not deemed dangerous, and was judged fit to continue serving as an armed police officer. Due to medical confidentiality — and because the consultations were private, not institutional — the psychologist did not inform ELAS about the man’s psychological condition.
Family Allegations
Antigoni’s family, who buried her yesterday amid profound grief, allege that her department was aware of the serious marital problems she faced. They also say her own psychologist had advised her to change the locks on her home — to keep the suspect out — even though he continued visiting the property regularly over the past six months, despite having moved out.
