A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred late Monday night (03.02.2026) on Poseidonos Avenue in Alimos, Athens, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man originally from Romania. The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. near Stratigou Sarafi Street, where three vehicles were stopped at a red light in the direction of Piraeus.
Driver Under the Influence
The collision was caused by a 23-year-old Czech national who was driving under the influence of alcohol. According to authorities, his blood alcohol level was double the legal limit. He crashed into the rear of the third vehicle in the line, causing fatal injuries to its driver — the 24-year-old Romanian national.
Injuries and Arrest
The 24-year-old passenger in that vehicle — a Greek national — sustained non-fatal injuries. The Czech driver also suffered injuries and was transported by EKAB ambulance to Genimatas General Hospital in Athens.
He was subsequently arrested on charges of manslaughter by negligence, dangerous driving, and causing serious bodily harm. The Hellenic Police Traffic Division is conducting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
