A fatal traffic accident occurred in Varympompi, on the road toward Lamia near the old National Highway, specifically on Gymnastirio Street. The crash claimed the life of one person.
The incident happened around half an hour after midnight in the Varympompi area. Initial reports suggest the driver was traveling through the location when, likely due to a fork in the road, he became disoriented, lost control of the vehicle, and collided with a wall.
Following the impact, the car veered off course and caught fire. An ambulance arrived at the scene, where the driver was extracted unconscious. He later succumbed to his injuries.
A charred body was recovered during firefighting operations involving a severely burned passenger vehicle on the Athens–Thessaloniki National Highway, near Nea Erythrea in Attica. Ten firefighters responded using five vehicles, alongside volunteers.
Emergency crews also rushed to the site to remove the vehicle, which had been reduced to an unrecognizable mass of twisted metal.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
