Greece’s government has launched a targeted subsidy program to help farmers offset rising input costs, with a 15% reimbursement on fertilizer purchases effective from April 1, 2026, through May 31, 2026. The measure—third in a broader support package—is specifically designed for the primary sector and addresses a critical secondary effect of surging fuel prices: increased production costs for agricultural inputs.
How the Subsidy Works
The aid covers 15% of the total value shown on official purchase invoices for fertilizers, calculated on the final invoice amount including VAT. The initiative carries an estimated budget of €15 million and is open to both individual professional farmers and legal entities active in agriculture.
Application Process
Eligible beneficiaries must submit applications via a dedicated electronic platform operated by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). The subsidy does not apply automatically—it requires formal registration and documentation.
Why It Matters
Fertilizers represent a major production cost across many crop systems. When their prices rise, the impact ripples quickly through the entire food supply chain—from farm to wholesale and ultimately to consumers. By directly supporting this key input, the government aims to interrupt one of the fastest transmission channels of inflation within the agricultural sector.
