Major agricultural payments are set to begin on Monday, 29 June 2026, through Greece’s newly restructured tax administration, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). This marks a significant shift from the previous system managed by the Organisation for the Management of Agricultural and Rural Development Funds (OPEKEPE), as announced by Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Margaritis Schinas.

A New Payment Framework for Transparency and Speed

In an interview with ERT, Schinas emphasized that these disbursements will be processed via AADE’s upgraded infrastructure — part of a broader reform aimed at increasing transparency and enabling faster, clearer communication with farmers about their eligible amounts. ‘The large payment package goes live on Monday, and I believe we’ll positively surprise producers with the total sum,’ he said, underscoring that the new mechanism integrates controls and payments under one unified framework.

The reform is designed to ensure genuine beneficiaries receive support promptly, while those who don’t meet eligibility criteria are informed early — giving them time to correct any issues before final processing.

€20 Million in Support for Rice Farmers

In parallel, up to €20 million in de minimis aid for rice growers will be disbursed within the coming days — no later than Tuesday, 30 June 2026. The funding addresses documented losses incurred by the sector over recent years. Schinas noted that longer-term support solutions are also under consideration, including a broader regional development programme aimed at stabilising the rice industry.

Ongoing Controls and Farmer Clarity

Schinas reaffirmed that rigorous checks will continue, stressing their importance in safeguarding public funds. ‘Genuine beneficiaries have nothing to fear,’ he stated, adding that under the new system, every farmer will know exactly what they’re entitled to — and when they’ll be paid.

Compensation for Rabbitfish Catch

On the issue of invasive rabbitfish (Siganus rivulatus), the minister announced a compensation rate of €5.33 per kilogram for fishermen targeting the species. He indicated the measure could be extended to other affected coastal regions, subject to assessment and in coordination with relevant ministries and regional authorities.
