Farewell to Georgios Roubanis: A Tribute to Greece’s Bronze Olympic Champion

On Monday, February 17th at 11:00 AM, the First Cemetery will host the funeral service for Greece’s bronze medal-winning Olympian, Georgios Roubanis, who passed away on February 11, 2025, at the age of 95. The Hellenic Olympic Committee will fully cover the cost of the ceremony in honor of Georgios Roubanis and has issued a resolution commemorating his passing: “The Hellenic Olympic Committee, following the announcement of the death of bronze medalist in weightlifting at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and founding member of the Association of Greek Olympians, GEORGIOS ROUBANIS, who with exceptional dedication and unparalleled strength served the purposes of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and sport in general, contributing greatly to the promotion of Olympism and its development at both national and international levels, honoring his legacy and memory unanimously decided: 1. To represent the HOC at the funeral. 2. For the ceremony expenses to be covered entirely by the HOC. 3. To donate a symbolic amount to a charitable institution in memory of the deceased. 4. To observe a minute of silence during the General Assembly meeting of the HOC. 5. To fly flags at half-mast at the offices, Panathenaic Stadium, and other facilities until the day of the funeral procession. 6. To publish this resolution on the HOC website.”
