In a new attack on the government and the leadership of the judiciary, regarding the case of the tragedy in Tempi, SYRIZA President Socrates Famellos spoke out. Addressing Live News and Nikos Evangelatos, Famellos stated that investigations into the Tempi train disaster have been delayed too long, saying: “A lot of time has passed, creating additional suspicion.” Regarding justice, he remarked: “I respect the institution of justice. It’s a fundamental pillar of democracy, but I lack confidence in its choices and decisions. Justice must not be delayed.” Famellos specifically addressed his opposition to the President of the Areios Pagos: “Last week, we had the stance of the President of the Areios Pagos who judged my stance in Parliament. Justice should not operate as the long arm of the government. The separation of powers was violated.” When questioned about cover-ups, Famellos emphasized: “There are many elements of an organized cover-up plan reaching the Prime Minister. The government wants to conceal the causes of the Tempi tragedy. They aim to hide the reasons and responsibilities behind the train collision. Responsibility exists from 2019 onward due to governance issues under Mitsotakis. I don’t know who gave the order for the whitewash, but I am deeply concerned about how we will address society’s demands.” Finally, he expressed disagreement with PASOK’s delay in submitting the no-confidence motion.
