“I chose — through my resignation — not to make space for division and tension, but to do everything I can for the unity of the Left and for the real problems facing society,” said Sokratis Famellis in a statement amid escalating turmoil within SYRIZA.
Following a wave of resignations and internal developments in the party, Famellis addressed journalists, saying: “Unfortunately, from the day after my resignation, tensions — as well as choices that undermine the Left, SYRIZA-PS members, and our own statute — are multiplying.”
“I will stand firm: let’s put citizens’ real concerns first — not inward-looking infighting. I have never served, nor will I ever serve, division,” Famellis stressed.
A fresh round of resignations hit SYRIZA on Tuesday (14/7/2026), with Giorgos Psychogiou, Giorgos Gavrilos, and Andreas Panagiotopoulos stepping down from the party. According to reports, further departures may follow in the coming days.
