Areas Under Red Code Alert
The following regions have been placed under a ‘Red Code’ emergency mobilization status:

- The entire Region of Crete
Under Red Code, Greece’s National Civil Protection Mechanism is placed on full operational alert. Emergency response teams are also preparing for rapid damage assessment, short-term recovery actions, humanitarian assistance, and measures to mitigate the broader impacts of potential disasters.
Coordinated Local Response
Municipalities and regional authorities in the affected areas are required to convene their Local and Regional Operational Coordination Bodies for Civil Protection (TESOPP and PESOPP, respectively) without delay. These bodies will review readiness protocols, resource allocation, evacuation plans, public communication strategies, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms specifically tailored to wildfire threats.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has formally notified all relevant state agencies—including fire services, police, health authorities, transport departments, and local governments—to maintain heightened readiness. Meanwhile, the Hellenic Fire Service has placed personnel from fire stations in the designated high-risk regional units on partial standby to ensure rapid response capability.
Enhanced Operational Measures
In line with its emergency protocols, the Fire Service has activated Phase 2 of its operational readiness plan. This includes intensified aerial surveillance patrols over vulnerable forested and rural zones, increased staffing at fire watchtowers, and pre-positioning of firefighting resources near high-risk terrain and populated areas.
