Explosion and Fire at Electrical Power Plant in Sitia, Crete – Roof Section Collapses

An explosion followed by a fire broke out earlier today on Clean Monday (03/25) at an electrical power production facility located in the Atherinolakkos area of Sitia, Crete. The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 AM, with reports indicating that the explosion originated from a large machine housed within a covered area, according to Radiolasithi.gr. No injuries were reported. A total of 42 firefighters, supported by one team from the 3rd Emergency Response Unit, 16 vehicles, and a specialized arm-mounted vehicle, were deployed to combat the blaze. Water supply trucks also assisted in extinguishing efforts. The fire, which caused significant material damage, is now under control. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
