Ex-Parliament Police Officer: Trial Behind Closed Doors in Child Sexual Abuse Case

The trial concerning the shocking case of systematic sexual abuse of minor children by their own parents will be held behind closed doors. The accused are a former Parliament police officer and his estranged wife, facing severe criminal charges including repeated rape of minors and repeated sexual acts with a minor. The court accepted the prosecutor’s proposal to hold the trial in camera to protect the minors’ privacy and psychological well-being. The prosecutor cited compelling reasons related to safeguarding the private lives of the parties and the children. Both defendants—the 47-year-old ex-officer and his 35-year-old estranged wife—consented to the request. The male defendant, who was dismissed from the police force, has been in pre-trial detention for 15 months. His wife remains free due to her pregnancy with her sixth child at the time of her interrogation. Defense counsel emphasized the need to shield the six children from public stigma and psychological harm, referencing expert child psychology reports warning against retraumatization through media exposure. The case reached judicial authorities one year ago following the mother’s complaint against the father. Investigative files include harrowing testimonies from the children describing repeated violent and abusive incidents perpetrated by both parents—as well as abuse suffered by the mother at the hands of the father. Following his interrogation, the man—charged with 12 offenses—was remanded in custody; the woman was released on bail under conditions.
