Tensions flared on Monday, May 19, 2025, in Sepolia when a court order evicted a family with a disabled child from their home. Neighbors, upon learning of the eviction, rushed to the scene and protested, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain. However, this heartbreaking news led to a demonstration later that evening in Sepolia as protesters voiced their opposition to the decision leaving the family homeless. According to local residents, the father of the child, who has a 67% disability rating due to years of working in harsh and unhealthy printing conditions, has been severely impacted by his health issues. The protest at 7:00 PM saw participation not only from neighbors and friends but also from the Cultural Exurban Association of Sepolia ‘The Renaissance’ and the Federation of Women of Greece. ‘The image this morning was tragic, with a disabled child evicted from their home, standing with suitcases and bags containing all their belongings on the sidewalk,’ said Theodosios Benatos, president of the Cultural Exurban Association of Sepolia ‘The Renaissance’. ‘With this mass protest, we demonstrated the strength of our condemnation, uniting the neighborhoods of Sepolia and Thymarakia.’ ‘This terrifying, oppressive operation showed the insensitivity and cowardice of the government, as they used forceful methods to promote this unacceptable policy,’ added Benatos. ‘They evicted a poor family, our neighbors, including Spyros, a young neighbor with a 67% disability, whose father could not pay some installments during the crisis. The government knew about this case and could have intervened but chose not to, highlighting the consequences of their policies.’ Demonstrators from Sepolia and Thymarakia marched through the streets chanting ‘shame, shame, history will write about those who evict disabled children,’ vowing to continue their fight for the family’s justice.
