European Cup of Drops: 3rd Dusakis in hammering

Orestes Dusakis gave Greece her chronic, second distinction in the European Shooting Cup in Leiria, after a… epic race in the athletes under the age of 23. With a best shot at 68.78 in his second attempt, John Barlis’s athlete took third place behind David Pilate, who dropped 71.52 and Cypriot Joseph Kesidis who achieved a national record with 70.63. Dusakis pitched 64.05 in his first attempt and was invalid in all others. The race lasted about four hours, as well as the fact that – as always in this event – all 18 participants attempted six shots, at the start of the fifth shot the evolution was interrupted, after Portuguese Francisco Kalau’s invalid shot caused great damage to the cage. The judges suggested continuing the fight with more open cage gates, but the Italian team did not agree as Davide Costa’s athlete is left-handed. The race was interrupted for more than an hour and continued with the last two shots, where there was no change in the first positions.
