European Commission President von der Leyen Urges G7 to ‘Avoid Protectionism’

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on Sunday for the G7 to ‘avoid protectionism’ during a press conference on the first day of the summit of leaders from the world’s seven most industrialized countries, taking place in Canada. ‘Let’s keep our (trade) exchanges fair, predictable, and open. We all need to avoid protectionism,’ urged von der Leyen during a joint press conference with European Council President Antonio Costa. This comes as the trade war initiated by Donald Trump, imposing various tariffs in recent months, has unsettled his country’s partners within the G7.
