The region of Euboea was shaken by a series of earthquakes that began early Sunday morning (18.05.25). The first earthquake measured 4.1 on the Richter scale, followed shortly after by a stronger quake measuring 4.4, with an epicenter located 1 kilometer east of Prokopios, Euboea. This second quake struck just before 10 a.m., with a focal depth estimated at 15.7 kilometers. A third tremor, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale, occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. in the same area. These powerful earthquakes have caused damage to homes and buildings, leaving residents of the region on edge despite their calm demeanor. According to local reports, the tremors were strong enough to generate significant noise, causing widespread fear among locals. Speaking to evima.gr, Mayor George Tsapourniotis of Mantoudiou, Limni, and Agia Anna emphasized that the quakes had indeed caused structural damage. He urged residents of Prokopios and surrounding villages to remain calm while authorities assess the situation. Contact has already been made with the relevant minister, Mr. Katsafadas, to deploy a team from DAEFK tomorrow to inspect affected buildings.
