EU Targets US Products in Response to Trump’s Tariffs

The list of American products targeted by the EU as retaliation for the 25% tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on steel and aluminum was announced on Wednesday (12.03.25). It includes meat, poultry, fruits, vegetables, alcoholic beverages, chips, tobacco products, nicotine patches, and women’s lingerie. As Politico reports, the inclusion of clothing, appliances, tools, and household items in the list of products threatened with European tariffs suggests an ‘attack on the American way of life.’ The list also features industrial machinery, air conditioning units, and motorcycles. Earlier on Wednesday, covering EU exports worth 26 billion euros, far exceeding the amount of the trade war during Trump’s first term. Notably, the EU executive has initiated an investigation to seek opinions from those affected by the American tariffs, setting a deadline of March 26th for proposal submissions. For Europe, the new tariffs will be nearly four times larger than similar tariffs imposed during Trump’s first term, when the U.S. targeted nearly $7 billion worth of block metals citing national security concerns. Additionally, Trump has announced reciprocal tariffs coming in early April based on partner policies deemed obstacles to U.S. trade, including the European value-added tax, and has placed certain goods, including European cars, in the crosshairs.
