The European Union continues to aim for an agreement with the US by July 9, stated EU President Ursula von der Leyen today (June 17, 2025), following comments by US President Donald Trump that the EU is not proposing a ‘fair’ deal. ‘It’s complex, but we are moving forward – which is good – and I am pushing hard to accelerate further… We will see how trade agreement negotiations conclude,’ said the head of the European Commission on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada. The Commission chief also noted that given the rise in oil prices, there is no pressure to further reduce the cap on Russian oil.
