Borrell: EU must start talks with Taliban – Prevent refugee crisis

The need not to repeat a migration crisis similar to that of 2015 but also to help the immediate removal from Afghanistan of both dual nationals, was discussed by the 27 EU Foreign Ministers at the extraordinary EU Council, which took place via teleconference.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell emphasized that the EU’s main aim at the moment was to remove from the country the staff working on EU diplomatic and military missions, thanking Italy and France in particular for the flyovers they managed to set up.

Mr. Borrell did not name a specific number of Europeans still being intimidated in the Asian country but said that efforts were being made with the authorities to ensure that no one was endangered, adding that the international community should start talks with the Taliban.
