The Hellenic Public Real Estate Company (ETAD) announced today (15 May 2026) the launch of a tender for the redevelopment of a three-storey building in the heart of Chania. The property—identified as ABK 183 Chania—is historically known as the former ‘Ice House’, where local professionals and residents once sourced ice.
A Prime Location in the City Centre
The building, with a total surface area of 1,029.03 square metres, is located at the intersection of Tsouderon and Plateia Markopoulou Streets—immediately adjacent to the Chania Municipal Market, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks and a hub of commercial, tourism, and cultural activity.
Architectural and Functional Potential
The structure comprises a ground floor and two upper floors, each measuring 343.01 square metres. It sits in a zone permitting a broad range of uses, offering flexibility for adaptive reuse. The goal is to substantially upgrade the building and transform it into a modern hub for business, tourism, and culture—while also enhancing the wider area and highlighting Chania’s distinctive urban character.
Tender Details
The electronic tender will remain open until 3 July 2026. Full terms and participation requirements are available on ETAD’s official platform: www.e-publicrealestate.gr.
