Estonia: Fridge damage destroys more than 100,000 doses of coronavirus vaccines !

A fault in a vaccine storage refrigerator for Covid-19 in Estonia destroyed more than 68,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine last week, the country’s health council announced today.

The alarm system was not activated to alert to the fault, which lasted more than 12 hours, raising the temperature in the cold storage room to 15 degrees Celsius and was only detected when an employee entered the room.

The AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid-19 should be maintained at 2-8 degrees Celsius. At least 32,000 doses of other vaccines were also destroyed.

“Such incidents are unacceptable,” said Katie Kuzmin, head of Estonia’s state-owned real estate company, which is investigating the incident.

The damaged doses were intended to be donated to other countries and Estonia’s vaccination schedule was not disrupted.
