Erdogan and Macron Discuss Turkey’s Role in Ukraine Peace Talks

In a telephone conversation on February 23, 2025, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron Turkey’s potential role in facilitating peace negotiations for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. According to an official statement from the Turkish Presidency, Erdogan emphasized that Turkey, which has previously brought both sides of the Russo-Ukrainian war to the negotiating table multiple times, could contribute significantly to these peace talks, possibly even hosting them. Furthermore, Erdogan highlighted the importance of initiating a negotiation process that includes both conflicting parties without excluding either side. The leaders also touched upon developments in Gaza, where Erdogan reiterated that any plan involving the relocation of Palestinians to Egypt, Jordan, or any third country is unacceptable. As NATO allies, Erdogan and Macron agreed to enhance their coordination moving forward.
