Epiphany: “I really wanted to, I will remember it forever,” says 12-year-old Nikos who caught the cross in Almyropotamos

‘ When I saw where the cross was, I started swimming as fast as I could to catch him,” says the newsit.gr, the 12-year-old student who dived into the frozen waters of Almyropotamos to catch the cross on their day. 12-year-old Nikos dives from nine years old the Theophany in Evia, but this year was the first time he managed to catch the cross and as he states in the newsit.gr it is a unique experience that of course has some difficulties. CORVERSE “About 10.30 this morning the priest threw the cross. There was some air at first and when I got undressed I was cold and then we waited for the priest to say his words and when he started flying the cross I jumped into the cold water. I was freezing but I kept looking for the cross because I really wanted to catch him.” People from Athens and people from the village were found in the port, but no one dared to fall into the frozen waters but only two small students. “When I dived I got water in my eyes and I couldn’t see, but when I saw where the cross was I started swimming as fast as I could to catch him,” the 12-year-old student told newsit.gr. CORVERSE “When I caught him in my hands the cross I felt happy to take him and relief from the cold waters. I am very happy about it and I will remember it forever” he noted. The 12-year-old’s mother, speaking at newssit.gr, about her son who found the courage to jump into the cold waters to catch on the cross, describes how the boy was a little nervous the day before, because last year he almost caught the cross again but for a while he had not succeeded. “Nikos has been diving for three years, we have a cottage for nine years and has been diving in the frozen waters to catch the cross. Last year he was on the sidelines to catch him but this year he made it. He was nervous yesterday because other years come adults but younger and a little nervous, but he really likes it. He’s a first grade student and a swimmer. He liked experience a lot and wants to dive every year because it’s something he likes and does it with pleasure,” said the 12-year-old’s mother.
