The Greek ministries responsible for energy and finance have secured additional funding to support the continuation and completion of energy efficiency interventions under the Exoikonomo (Energy Savings) programmes. In response to the high demand for these initiatives, Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastaurou and Deputy Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis jointly extended key deadlines—pushing the final implementation date to 30 November 2026 for certain beneficiary categories.

Who qualifies for the extension?

The extension applies to beneficiaries of the following programmes:

  • Exoikonomo 2021
  • Exoikonomo 2023
  • Exoikonomo 2025
  • Exoikonomo – Renovate for Young People

To be eligible, applicants must fall into one of two groups:

  • Those whose applications have been formally approved and for whom initial funding transfers (i.e., advance payments) to contractors or suppliers have already been confirmed via the official information system; or
  • Those whose applications are currently in the process of succession—meaning they are pending formal approval but meet eligibility criteria and are awaiting administrative follow-up.

Special provision for young beneficiaries

For the Exoikonomo – Renovate for Young People programme, the extension also covers all applications deemed eligible and approved by 17 July. These applicants now also have until 30 November 2026 to complete their renovations.

Impact and scale

Across all Exoikonomo schemes, more than 100,000 households have upgraded their homes’ energy performance. Additionally, over 93,000 beneficiaries have received support through the related I’m Changing My Heating System – Solar Water Heater programme.

In total, over €1.4 billion has been allocated through these initiatives—helping reduce household energy bills, improve the quality of Greece’s building stock, and strengthen national energy security.
