With twists and surprises completed the 76th last night (16.09.2024). The historic epic “Shogun” won the award of the best drama series making it as the first non-English-language series to win that prize. while Hacks” managed to do the twist and “steal” the title of best comedy from “The Bear”. “Shogun” was known to have a good chance of winning this prize, since from mid-summer it had gathered most nominations for the Emmy Awards. This series deals with political machinations in Japan in the 17th century. Japanese protagonists Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai also won acting awards. The “Hacks” on the other hand was the winner – a surprise of the award of the best comedy series, focusing on the professional course of a legendary 70-year-old comedian and writer. Jean Smart who plays the comedy “Deborah Vance” in the series, was applauded strongly when she won her third Emmy. “The Bear”, won three of four Emmy awards for comedy acting, retreating only in front of Jean Smart, who claimed her third trophy for her lead role. Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach won the second consecutive Emmy Awards for a comedy actor and a secondary in “The Bear”. White plays chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, a man trying to turn Chicago’s family sandwich shop into a luxury restaurant while fighting his “demons”. “This show changed my life and instilled my belief that change is possible,” White said while he was moving his award to the Peacock Theater scene in Los Angeles. Moss-Bachrach won his award for his role as “sister” Richie, restaurant manager and father. In a small surprise, Liza Colón-Zayas won the third prize of the series as she was declared the best comedy actress of supporting female role for her role as chef Tina Marrero, in the same series. Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer”, the incredible story of a bartender who falls victim to staging by a customer, emerged as the best limited series. Winners were selected by the nearly 22,000 performers, directors, producers and other members of the Hollywood Television Academy.
