By tomorrow, Tuesday, 30 June 2026, approximately one million families with children in Greece will receive an emergency child benefit of €150 per child directly into their bank accounts. The government announced the measure as part of broader support for households.

Two Payment Rounds Scheduled

A second round of payments will follow by 31 August 2026, targeting children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026 — provided all eligibility criteria are met. Among these is the requirement that newborns born on or after 1 January 2026 must have been issued a tax identification number (AFM) by 10 August 2026.

Amounts Scale with Family Size

The total benefit amount is calculated progressively based on the number of dependent children: €150 for one child, €300 for two, €450 for three, €600 for four, and so on.

No Application Required

The process is fully automated. Eligible families do not need to submit applications. All necessary data — including income, family composition, and tax filings — has been drawn from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) database.

Eligibility Criteria

Beneficiaries must be parents who are tax residents of Greece and meet specific income thresholds:

  • Up to €40,000 for married couples or cohabiting partners, plus €5,000 for each additional dependent child beyond the first;
  • Up to €39,000 for single-parent families, plus €5,000 for each additional dependent child beyond the first.

The benefit is calculated and disbursed automatically using data from the 2024 tax year (i.e., the 2025 tax returns). Payments are scheduled to be completed by 30 June 2026 for eligible children already registered in the system.

Payment Details

Funds will be credited to the IBAN account previously declared to AADE. In cases of joint tax filings (married or cohabiting couples), the full amount goes to the primary taxpayer listed on the cleared return. For separate filings involving shared children, the benefit is split equally between both parents. If children are claimed separately by each parent (i.e., not jointly declared), the benefit is divided only if both claim the same child as dependent — otherwise, it goes entirely to the parent who includes the child in their declaration.

If one parent is a tax resident abroad, only the Greek-resident parent qualifies for the benefit.

In cases of separate tax filings by married couples where one spouse has not submitted or finalized their 2025 tax return, the benefit may be adjusted or delayed pending resolution of the filing status.
