Starting today (30 June 2026), approximately one million families with children in Greece will receive an emergency child benefit of €150 per child—part of a government support measure announced earlier this year.
Payments Underway
According to Domna Michailidou, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, disbursements began yesterday (29 June 2026) for around 950,000 families. The expanded income eligibility criteria allow more households to qualify. Most recipients will see the funds credited to their bank accounts today, the minister confirmed during an interview on ANT1.
An exception applies to families with children born from 2025 onward. In many cases, these newborns have not yet been issued a Tax Identification Number (AFM), which is required for processing payments. These families will receive their €150-per-child benefit in August—provided they submit AFM applications for their children by 10 August 2026.
How Much Families Receive
The total amount scales with family size: €150 for one child, €300 for two, €450 for three, €600 for four, and so on. The payment process is fully automated—no action is needed from beneficiaries. All necessary data has been drawn directly from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) tax records.
Eligibility Criteria
The benefit is available to parents who are Greek tax residents and meet specific income thresholds, as outlined in a ministerial decision:
- Up to €40,000 annual household income for married couples or cohabiting partners—with a €5,000 increase for each additional dependent child beyond the first.
- Up to €39,000 for single-parent families—with the same €5,000 increment per additional child beyond the first.
Eligibility is determined using data from the 2024 tax year (i.e., tax returns filed in 2025). No separate application is required.
Special Provision for Newborns
For children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026, the benefit—or any supplementary amount—will be paid by 31 August 2026, under the following conditions:
- Children born between 1 January and 31 December 2025 are automatically included.
- Children born between 1 January and 31 July 2026 must have an AFM application submitted by 10 August 2026, based on 2025 income data.
“The €150 is not a cure-all—but it’s tangible support that can help families get through the month a little more easily,” said Minister Michailidou.
