SpaceX, along with two partners—Palantir and Anduril Industries—has emerged as a frontrunner in the race to secure a crucial role in constructing President Donald Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense shield. According to Reuters, six individuals familiar with the matter revealed that these companies have been presenting their plans to top Trump administration and Pentagon officials. The ambitious project involves deploying between 400 and 1,000 satellites to track missiles, complemented by an armed satellite fleet of around 200 units to destroy hostile threats. Elon Musk, who has donated significantly to support Trump’s presidency, now serves as a special advisor focused on reducing government spending through the Office of American Innovation. Despite positive signals from the Pentagon, final decisions regarding the ‘Golden Dome’ are still in early stages, with potential changes expected over the coming months. SpaceX aims to act as a subscription service provider rather than owning the system outright, which could bypass certain Pentagon procurement protocols but may also raise concerns about long-term control and pricing.
