Elon Musk: Wrapping Up His Time at DOGE and Focusing on Tesla

in

It seems the clock is ticking for Elon Musk’s involvement with the U.S. government. During a recent earnings call on April 25th, Musk, the CEO of Tesla, announced that starting in May, he will significantly reduce his time dedicated to the committee for ‘government effectiveness’ (DOGE). “From next month, in May, the time I allocate to DOGE will drastically decrease,” Musk stated. The DOGE committee was created by former President Donald Trump to cut federal spending dramatically. Musk assured that the critical work of the committee has been largely achieved. However, Tesla reported first-quarter results far below expectations due partly to Musk’s close collaboration with the Trump administration. Global sales dropped more sharply than anticipated, with only 336,681 vehicles delivered (-13% year-over-year). Musk acknowledged the negative impact of his government work on Tesla but praised the efforts of DOGE in reducing wasteful spending. He accused those who benefited from the wasted funds of targeting Tesla. Despite challenges, Tesla managed to sell its stockpile of older models in key markets like the U.S. and China. After 130 days, Musk’s role as a ‘special government employee’ will conclude, aligning with the end of his advisory period in late May.
