In a dramatic political turn of events yesterday (05.07.2025), billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced the creation of a new political party — the ‘America Party’ — accusing President Donald Trump’s fiscal bill of pushing the United States toward bankruptcy. This marks a sharp break with his former ally, Trump, whom Musk once strongly supported and even spent hundreds of millions to help re-elect.
Musk made the announcement via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he stated: “Today, the America Party is being created to give you back your freedom.” The declaration follows a poll conducted by Musk through the platform, which reportedly showed strong public support for an alternative political force in American politics.
The tech mogul criticized Trump’s tax bill as involving ‘ridiculous spending,’ warning it would increase the national debt by $5 trillion. He accused both Republicans and Democrats of functioning as a single-party system — what he called a ‘uniparty’ — working against the interests of ordinary Americans.
Drawing a historical analogy, Musk referenced the ancient Greek general Epaminondas and his decisive victory over Sparta at the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE. He likened the strategy used in that battle — focusing concentrated power at a key point on the battlefield — to how the new party intends to dismantle the entrenched political establishment.
When asked why he had fundamentally changed his stance toward Trump, Musk replied: ‘The deficit going from an already crazy $2 trillion under Biden to $2.5 trillion. That will bankrupt the country.’
Musk, who previously led the Department of Government Efficiency under Trump’s administration with the goal of cutting government spending, now finds himself in direct opposition due to the president’s latest financial policies.
It’s worth noting that Musk, born in South Africa, is ineligible to run for U.S. president, as the Constitution requires candidates to be natural-born citizens.
