The quadrennial period of 2021-2024 has concluded positively for the Certification Directorate of ELGO-DEMETRA, according to organizational data. Despite challenges primarily related to reduced available human resources, efficiency indicators have shown a steady upward trend, confirming the organizational readiness and effectiveness of ELGO-DEMETRA. This success is attributed largely to proper control planning, improved management of pending cases, and the introduction of technological automation through the i-AGRO system. The demand for certified and authentic agricultural products is rapidly increasing. ELGO-DEMETRA remains committed to certifying Greek products accurately while protecting both producers and consumers. According to official ELGO-DEMETRA data, there has been a significant increase in controls in the area of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) products during this period. Notably, organic farming experienced impressive growth, with registered businesses rising from around 32,000 in 2020 to over 122,000 in 2024. In 2024, ELGO-DEMETRA significantly increased its market presence with a 90% rise in inspections, emphasizing stricter monitoring of trade flows. Sampling also tripled compared to 2023, enhancing consumer protection against violations. ELGO-DEMETRA continues its digital transformation, focusing on certification processes to improve reliability and efficiency. The organization’s new mobile application documents inspections conducted by private certification bodies under AGRO 2 standards and organic farming, further strengthening the validity and effectiveness of these checks.
