30 June 2026 is the final deadline for registering all elevators in Greece’s digital Elevator Registry, operated by the Ministry of Development. Failure to complete registration by this date may result in fines of up to €5,000 per elevator installation. Registration is mandatory via the official online platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr.

What the registry covers

The Elevator Registry — maintained by the General Secretariat for Industry at the Ministry of Development — launched on 31 July 2025. Initially given a four-month window, the registration period was extended to 30 June 2026 following a joint ministerial decision.

The census applies to all elevators installed across Greek territory — regardless of whether they have completed prior conformity assessments, certification procedures, or registrations under older legislation. This means both newly installed and older elevators must be registered, including those with pending technical upgrades or unresolved compliance issues.

Background and stakeholder concerns

Prior to the launch, industry groups — including the Hellenic Federation of Building Owners (POMIDA) — advocated for more time, citing practical challenges faced by building managers, owners, and maintenance companies. POMIDA highlighted concerns that property managers were hesitant to use their personal TaxisNet credentials, fearing unintended legal liabilities from the declaration. Technical professionals also raised questions about whether owner consent is required when maintenance firms submit registrations on their behalf.

Discussions have gone beyond simple registration, extending to upcoming inspection requirements and potential modernisation obligations. POMIDA has called for targeted support measures — especially for older apartment buildings and management bodies with limited financial capacity — to ease the burden of necessary upgrades.

Who is responsible for registration?

Obligated parties include the elevator’s owner, the building manager, or their legally authorised representative. Maintenance providers or elevator installers may also carry out the registration on their behalf.

In multi-owner buildings — such as apartment blocks — coordination is essential to ensure each elevator is registered only once and to avoid duplicate or conflicting entries. When multiple elevators are present in one building, each must be registered separately.

The process is fully digital and requires access via TaxisNet credentials. According to the Ministry of Development, registration is free of charge and typically takes between three and five minutes — provided all required information is readily available.

Information required

The registry collects key details including: the owner’s, manager’s, or legal representative’s identification; the elevator’s physical address; number of elevators on site; number of stops per unit; year of installation; and the name and contact details of the responsible maintenance provider.

Optional fields include confirmation of conformity declarations and CE marking status.
