Eleftheria Zourou (Doctoranytime): The Success Story and What’s Next

When Eleftheria Zourou launched Doctoranytime in May 2012, few could have predicted—amid Greece’s intense political and economic instability—that the digital healthcare platform would not only survive its first critical three years but also grow into a globally recognized brand, now reporting an annual growth rate exceeding 25%.

A Vision Rooted in Patient Empowerment

In an interview with newsit.gr, Zourou, CEO of Doctoranytime, describes the platform as a vertically integrated healthcare service hub with ambitions to transform the sector. Her original motivation was deeply personal: “I wanted to be able to choose my doctor based on specific criteria—and know, through genuine patient reviews, whether someone else had a positive experience.”

To uphold trust and transparency, Doctoranytime applies strict verification protocols for all reviews, ensuring each one comes from a verified patient who actually attended the appointment. “If needed—and we’ve done so—we’ll terminate our collaboration with a doctor who repeatedly crosses ethical or quality thresholds,” Zourou emphasizes.

From Athens to Brussels—and Beyond

In Greece, Doctoranytime maintains an annual growth rate of around 25%. That figure climbs to nearly 30% in international markets like Belgium—where the company’s expansion began in earnest after being presented as a health-tech role model at the European Parliament in 2015.

“The Belgian market operated under completely different conditions than Greece’s,” Zourou explains. “Our initial launch was challenging—but within six months, we overhauled our business model. That pivot was essential, and it enabled Doctoranytime to become the dominant player in Belgium’s digital health space.”

In 2019, the company expanded into Latin America, entering Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Colombia. However, entry wasn’t feasible everywhere. “In Peru, for example, cultural factors—including deep-rooted reliance on traditional healers and limited trust in formal medicine—made market entry impractical,” she notes.

Do+, Organic Growth, and the Road Ahead

Doctoranytime’s business model prioritizes organic growth, supported by its subscription-based service Do+. More than 5,000 subscribers already enjoy round-the-clock access to medical advice and e-prescriptions.

Looking ahead, Zourou reaffirms the company’s core mission: reshaping healthcare delivery. “Our vision remains unchanged—to make people feel safe accessing care, without cost or administrative complexity acting as barriers,” she says.
