The Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAEEY) has launched a new, more detailed tool to help electricity consumers compare tariffs—now including flexible fixed-rate plans alongside the traditional green, blue, and yellow categories. Officially named the Electricity Price Statistical Analysis Tool, it offers comprehensive data on all available electricity pricing schemes and multiple comparison options tailored to individual consumption patterns.
A More Sophisticated—but Demanding—Comparison Tool
Compared to earlier versions, this updated platform is significantly more granular and thorough. However, it also requires users to have a solid understanding of tariff classifications and associated charges—including standing fees, time-of-use (dual-zone) rates, and supplier discounts.
How It Works
Consumers can now compare plans either for the current month or across the full year, using their own estimated or actual consumption. For example, someone can select a specific tariff and instantly see how it stacks up against the average price in the green, blue, or yellow categories. Separate filters allow side-by-side analysis of discounts offered by suppliers, fixed monthly fees, and dual-zone pricing structures.
RAEEY also plans to integrate the newly introduced ‘orange’ (dynamic) tariffs into the tool shortly. These tariffs charge different rates per hour of the day, reflecting real-time electricity market conditions.
Which Tariffs Make Sense This Year?
One notable finding concerns flexible fixed-rate products—plans that offer a set monthly price up to a predefined consumption limit. According to the tool’s analysis, most of these plans proved uncompetitive in April, resulting in higher final electricity bills across nearly all consumption levels compared to standard alternatives.
Another key insight: for the first time this year, the cheapest category overall isn’t the blue (regulated) tariffs—but the yellow (variable) ones. RAEEY’s data shows average monthly charges of €61.19 for green tariffs, €56.89 for blue, and €54.59 for yellow.
