Electricity Prices Fell to €89 in April – What Does It Mean for Bills?

in

The wholesale electricity market closed at an average price of €89 per megawatt-hour in April. In comparison, the February price was €154 and March saw a price of €105, indicating a new monthly drop of approximately 10%. The month began relatively high but experienced a sharp decline after Easter. In fact, during the last five days, prices have consistently remained below €65. As expected, the electricity bills that Greeks will pay in May are shaped by the previous month’s figures. There is hope that suppliers may announce even lower rates in early May. So far, Protergia has announced it will maintain its green tariff at 15.9 cents for the eleventh consecutive month. Currently, there are two possibilities: one suggests that the significant drop in prices in April means limited room for further reductions. The other indicates we might be surprised again if companies decide to become even more competitive compared to before. Finally, note that on May 1st and 2nd, the new rates for all tariffs for May will be posted on the RAADY website.
