In an emergency intervention to support household accounts until a permanent European mechanism is formed, the government will proceed, according to what he said today (20.11.24), the Minister of Energy, speaking to talk radio. In other words, Mr Skylakis has admitted that he intends to have an ad hoc intervention until a new mechanism arrives. The Minister said that “the government will try so that intervention concerns social categories beyond households” and “we will see to what extent this will be achieved. Regarding Greece’s adoption of Spain’s model and decoupling from the energy market, Mr. Skylakis said that “all this is under discussion”. However, he stressed that “our problem is coupling with other markets, large exports (S.R.S.) and high profits.” Greece has much more natural gas and it will take 3 more years for this landscape to change radically. Finally, Mr. Skylakakis did not clarify whether the announcement of the emergency intervention will take place before or after the announcement of the electricity tariffs by the providers.
