The ultra-conservative candidate Ebrahim Raisi won the first round of presidential elections in Iran on Friday with more than 62.2% of the vote.
According to some official figures released by Orff, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Mohsen Rezai, came in second with more than 11,5% of the vote, ahead of the chairman of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdolnasser Hemati (8,3%) and Amir Hosseini MP Gazizadeh Hashemi (3,4%).
Earlier in the day, outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rohani congratulated Raisi on his victory, as did all three of his opponents.
