In his first message from Silivri Prison, detained former mayor Ekrem Imamoglu referenced the high turnout in the internal vote of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) for presidential candidacy. He emphasized that these elections would stand as a testament to the people’s dissatisfaction with the current government. ‘These ballots will rise, and the nation will deliver an unforgettable blow to this government,’ he stated. Speaking at a large protest gathering outside Istanbul’s city hall, CHP President Ozgur Ozel noted that over 14.85 million citizens nationwide participated in the polls to express their support for Imamoglu.
