Greece’s National Organization for Medicines and Health Products (EFET) has issued a recall of specific batches of hummus products after the bacterium Salmonella spp. was detected in a key ingredient—tahini—used during production.
Recall Triggered by Internal Testing
The issue was identified by the manufacturer, Ambrosia S.A., during routine microbiological testing of its tahini supply. Following confirmation of contamination, the company immediately initiated a voluntary recall of affected batches in coordination with EFET.
Products Affected
The recall covers hummus sold under both the ‘AMBROSIA’ brand and private-label versions distributed to various food retail outlets across Greece. Specific batch numbers and expiration dates are listed in EFET’s official recall notice.
Consumer Advisory
EFET urges consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products not to consume them and to return them to the point of purchase. The company has already requested that retailers withdraw the items from shelves.
