The EFET has issued a recall for a batch of the product ‘Macedonian Peppers’ under the brand name ‘Almopia’. In an announcement released on June 19, 2025, EFET highlighted that the specific product, packaged in glass and weighing 670 grams net, is being recalled due to high concentrations of sulfur dioxide. The batch code is 02531923 with a consumption date up to October 30, 2026. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the product contains sulfur dioxide levels exceeding 10 mg/kg, which are not indicated on the packaging. Sulfur dioxide and sulfites at these concentrations can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Consumers with allergies to sulfites are advised not to consume this product. Testing conducted by the Department of Chemistry in Kavala revealed that the product did not comply with safety regulations as the allergenic substance was not properly labeled. The Department of Commerce of the Regional Unit of Xanthi requested the immediate recall of the entire batch, and relevant inspections are ongoing.
